The Itascatur Outdoor Activity Club, established in 1979, is dedicated to promoting physically healthy, non-motorized outdoor recreational activities in the Park Rapids and Hubbard County area.
Key Activities and Events:
-
Cycling: During the warmer months, the club organizes group bike rides along the scenic Heartland Trail and nearby roads. Weekly social rides are held every Friday, offering a relaxed environment for participants. For the latest schedules and updates, members and interested individuals are encouraged to visit the club's Facebook page.
-
Nordic Skiing and Snowshoeing: In the winter, the club operates and maintains the Soaring Eagle Nordic Ski Area, located approximately 8 miles north of Park Rapids off Highway 71. This area features 10 kilometers of marked and groomed trails suitable for both classical and skate skiing, catering to beginners and experts alike. Additionally, marked and groomed snowshoe trails are available, with a selection of snowshoes on hand for visitors to try. Open houses are hosted weekly during the ski season, conditions permitting, and updates are regularly posted on the club's Facebook page.
-
Headwaters 100 Bike Ride: Each fall, the club hosts the Headwaters 100 Bike Ride, a prominent event that attracts cyclists from across North America. Participants can choose from 45, 75, or 100-mile routes that showcase the region's stunning fall colors, including a picturesque ride through Itasca State Park, the birthplace of the Mississippi River. The next ride is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, 2025.
Beyond these activities, the Itascatur Outdoor Activity Club is committed to community outreach and education, providing resources and support for outdoor enthusiasts in the area.
